Dickinson Wright’s Toronto office offers students something the Bay Street market rarely combines: the resources and reach of an AmLaw 200 platform with the access, mentorship, and direct partner contact of a focused 80-lawyer office.

Dickinson Wright LLP is a full-service business law firm advising Canadian, U.S., and international clients on complex transactions, disputes, and regulatory matters. From our office at Commerce Court, our Toronto lawyers work across more than 15 industry sectors and 22 practice areas, with deep experience in cross-border work.

We are an extension of Dickinson Wright PLLC, an AmLaw 200 firm based in the United States, and part of an integrated network of 23 offices across North America. With approximately 80 lawyers in Toronto, our office is intentionally focused. Students are not faces in a crowd — they work directly with the partners and associates leading the file.

We invest in our students because the lawyers we train today shape the firm of tomorrow. Our programs are designed to bridge the gap between law school and practice, on real files, with real clients, and with the responsibility that comes with both.

Every summer and articling student is matched with a mentor on day one. Mentors guide students through their first files, introduce them across the firm, and provide ongoing support throughout the program. Formal training sessions, practice-area workshops, and partner-led learning round out a curriculum designed to accelerate practice-readiness.

Our Summer Student Program runs from mid-May to mid-August. The program does not involve formal rotations; instead, students are encouraged to seek out work in the practice areas that interest them most. Areas of focus include:

Summer students attend firm events both within and outside of Toronto, including the firm’s Associates’ Dinner in the United States — an opportunity to meet colleagues from across our 23-office network.

Dickinson Wright offers summer students a competitive compensation package, comparable to other Bay Street firms.

Our Articling Program runs from August through June and is structured around two rotations — Transactions and Litigation — with the flexibility to gain exposure to specialized practices within those broader umbrellas, including Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Franchise & Distribution, and Bankruptcy & Insolvency.

Articling students have direct access to all Dickinson Wright lawyers and routinely work side-by-side with partners on live transactions, trials, motions, arbitrations, mediations, research, and presentations. They also attend the firm’s Associates’ Dinner, firm retreats, and annual firm-wide dinner.

Dickinson Wright offers articling students a competitive compensation package, comparable to other Bay Street firms, which includes:

• Ten vacation days
• Personal phone allowance
• Payment of Law Society Licensing Examination fees
