    Overview

    Stan Torgovitsky is a patent attorney experienced in negotiations, licensing and litigation.

    Stan also counsels clients on patent enforcement and portfolio management, prepares and prosecutes patent applications, performs infringement, validity, due diligence and freedom to operate studies in electronic and electrical matters, software, business methods and mechanical arts, and represents clients in appellate proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

    Stan’s areas of focus include semiconductor circuit design and manufacturing, telecommunications, wired and wireless network systems, communication and components, global positioning systems, optics, laser physics, signal processing, electronic displays, computer hardware/software, Internet applications, and data encoding and processing.

    Stan handles matters for large domestic, international and Fortune 500 companies, as well as small and midsized companies and individual entrepreneurs.

    Prior to joining Dickinson Wright, Stan was a partner at an Intellectual Property boutique, and before that a patent litigation and prosecution attorney at a large IP firm, both in DC.

    Before getting his law degree, Stan worked for nine year as an engineer and physicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center on satellite communication, trajectory design, and propulsion system modeling.

    Experience

    • Lead counsel for Hubbell Incorporated enforcing four patents on occupancy sensors, which resulted in admission of infringement on Summary Judgement before trial.
    • Lead counsel for Teletrac, Inc. and Ryder System Inc. in a joint defense group with six other defendants against Telematics Corp., a subsidiary of patent-holding company Acacia Research Corp., on patents for mobile data processing and transmission, vehicle tracking, and fleet management, which resulted in favorable settlement for client.
    • Patent counsel for Nidek Inc. in successful defense against infringement of patents on excimer lasers for vision correction.
    • Patent counsel for NEC Corporation working with non-patent trial counsel in Eastern District of Virginia litigation involving 21 patents on semiconductor design and manufacturing.
