Dickinson Wright Sponsors 2024 Kamp Kappa
Overview
As part of our firm’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we do business, Dickinson Wright proudly sponsored 2024 Kamp Kappa this summer in Alexandria, VA. John P. Cunningham (Member, Washington, D.C.) also participated in this year’s program.
“Kamp Kappa is an ideal blend of outdoor adventure and educational enrichment for young kids interested in pursuing a career in the legal field. Kamp Kappa gives campers the tools to succeed and prepare for their future. It’s always a rewarding program for both the kids and the adults who participate as well. I look forward to every opportunity to serve at Kamp Kappa, and I’m thrilled that Dickinson Wright was able to sponsor the event this year,” said John.
Kamp Kappa is the flagship program from the Alexandria-Fairfax (Virginia) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The weeklong summer camp program for minority youths aged 10-16 in the DC area focuses on activities that nurture teamwork, self-respect, and respect for others. John has volunteered at Kamp Kappa for several years and was introduced to the organization by U.S. District Court Judge Gerald B. Lee (Ret.) of the Eastern District of Virginia, for whom John served as a federal law clerk early in his career. For 25 years, Judge Lee has led “Street Law” at Kamp Kappa, a mock trial and educational program during Kamp Kappa that introduces campers to a diverse group of lawyers, judges, U.S. Marshalls, and Alexandria Sheriff Deputies and teaches them about the legal and criminal justice systems.
